Keep a Lookout for LibQual

From October 15-November 2, the Andruss Library will be participating in the LibQual survey.  This web-based survey lets us measure the service quality of libraries. We participated in LibQual in 2006, 2009, 2012 & 2015; this follow-up survey will show us how things have changed over the last three years.

This survey will:
  • Tell us how the BU community rates its library services
  • Allow us to compare our results against other university libraries
  • Show us where we can improve our library services

To let you know how important we take this survey, we’re giving away prizes.  When you fill out the survey, you’ll have the chance to enter into a drawing to win:
  • One (1) $150 Amazon gift card
  • One (1) $100 Amazon gift card
  • One (1) $50 Amazon gift card
  • 500 additional pages of free printing

Prizes made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Bloomsburg University Library Association (FOBULA).

We will be surveying all members of the BU community, so keep a lookout for an email inviting you to complete the survey.  If you have questions, contact Katie Yelinek, Reference Librarian/Coordinator of Government Documents, at kyelinek@bloomu.edu.

Adventures on the Sea Crossword Puzzle

This year the American Library Association National Library Week's theme is Libraries Lead. ALA has chosen a compass as a symbol of how libraries are a source of guidance and leadership. In honor of this theme, we created a crossword puzzle based on classic sea adventure literature and nautical terminology, stories where the main characters needed to use a compass to navigate their own journeys.

Navigate here for our Adventures on the Sea online crossword puzzle.

Darla Bressler, beloved education librarian, passes away

Darla Bressler, a wonderful colleague, friend, and dedicated educator, passed away at her home last week on Wednesday, March 14th, with her daughter Kelly by her side. Darla was the education librarian at Bloomsburg University, Andruss Library for over 16 years and had retired from the University fall semester 2017 for medical reasons. After a brief hospitalization at Geisinger Hospital in early March, she went home to hospice care. We will miss her greatly.
Deeply committed to students, Darla was passionate about the power of children’s literature to instill a love of reading and learning in young children and adolescents and was justifiably proud of the Juvenile Collection (children's literature) that she had developed over the years for the BU Library. It was -- and is -- a vibrant collection, heavily used by education students and members of the University community. Darla had requested after her retirement that in lieu of gifts, people make donations to her beloved Juvenile Collection, and her family has requested that the fund be continued to honor and commemorate her work.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home in Curwensvile, PA, on Tuesday, March 20, from 5 - 8 pm. Her obituary may be viewed and condolences posted online at https://www.pasimplecremation.com/obituary/darla-j-bressler/
