About Open Education Resources (OER)

Studies have shown that rising textbook costs often result in students not purchasing required textbooks. A 2016 study of over 22,000 Florida college students found that 66% of them did not purchase a required textbook due to its high cost, while 38% of them received a poor grade and 20% failed a course without the required textbook. The Open Educational Resources movement offers an affordable alternative to costly textbooks and includes full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and other types of content, which can be adapted to the course.
